Super Smash Brothers, the most popular fighting game series of all time, is chock-full of characters drawn from Nintendo's entire history of gaming. There are so many addictive, endlessly fun hours available to any gamer wishing to relive his childhood playing with his favorite characters, whether you want to play as the baddest of bad guys from the Mario series with Bowser, zip across the stage in seconds flat with Sonic the Hedgehog, or steal someone's superpowers with Kirby.
Super Smash Brothers 64, Super Smash Brothers Melee (for Gamecube), and Super Smash Brothers Brawl are the three games in the series (For the Nintendo Wii). We've compiled a list of the franchise's top 10 greatest players of all time.

10. Peach, Super Smash Brothers Melee
Peach is one of the toughest characters to beat in any of the Super Smash Brothers titles, because of her projectile root veggies, gliding parasol, and unusual body motions. When her "down A" spin move catches the opponent in the proper motion, it can change any player's damage scale from low to high in a matter of seconds. When she leaped, she could stay in the air for approximately five seconds and move horizontally; this was a nightmare for any opponent. I've seen the greatest of them shudder at the thought of facing a competent Peach because of the powerful strikes all around them.
9. Captain Falcon, Super Smash Brothers 64
Captain Falcon, the quickest character in the original Super Smash Brothers game, was a formidable opponent. The original Captain Falcon's most well-known techniques are a gliding kick and an extremely powerful (albeit difficult to perform) forward punch. Captain Falcon, a character from the video game F-Zero X, should be one of your first options when switching on everyone's favorite Nintendo 64 cartridge.

8. Ice Climbers, Super Smash Brothers Brawl
With the Ice Climbers, a strange technique was recently discovered in the game world: once they grasp a character, they can hold him in place without allowing him to escape the assault. This technique, known as the endless grab, is very tough to counter if you don't have the proper abilities. There are methods to dodge the move, but the Ice Climbers are one of (or two of!) the most powerful characters in the Super Smash Brothers series.
7. Sheik, Super Smash Brothers Melee
This figure, who is technically one-half of a changing character, is not to be trusted. Sheik from Super Smash Brothers Melee is a true all-star — her needles often hold her opponents at away, her speed is almost unrivaled throughout the game, and we all know she is nearly unstoppable while wavedashing. Sheik is popular among the professional “major league” smashing competitions, having first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in 1997.
6. Kirby, Super Smash Brothers 64
In the original Super Smash Brothers 64 game, Kirby was a bit of an exception. Kirby's strong strikes were both ingeniously conceived and extremely simple to perform, and he could recover from almost any place on the stage. The down B "rock," as well as his up B "sword" and his "I'm going to devour you and steal your super abilities" assault, are popular among both new and veteran Kirby gamers. He may be found in Melee, Brawl, and even the forthcoming Super Smash Brothers game, and he's a blast to play.

5. Diddy Kong, Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Diddy is a glorified combat character with the ability to trip his opponents with self-generated banana peels, making him one of the most flexible characters in any fighting game. Diddy can execute dramatic, furious, and extremely powerful combinations against his opponents using bananas as the foundation for his attack, frequently beating even the most talented performers with startling ease. Aside from his bananas, Diddy possesses one of the most powerful "recovery" abilities in the game, using a Boba-Fett-styled jetpack that actually launches him into the air.
4. Fox, Super Smash Brothers Melee Fox
It is one of the most famous characters in the Super Smash Brothers franchise. He is the adored protagonist from the Star Fox series. In Melee, Fox can shock opponents with the quickest attack in the game, the "shine," resulting in a high percentage and an infinite number of combo attacks. His animated laser can also do a lot of damage fast. He's also very quick, and "newbie" characters may struggle to handle him at first, but once learned, few characters can compete on his level consistently.
3. Pikachu, Super Smash Brothers 64
Pikachu is widely considered as the greatest character from the original Super Smash Brothers video game, and he is also the first character I ever played in the series (which is, of course, a HUGE incentive for anybody to try him). One of the most famous visuals from the series, and definitely one of the most powerful attacks in the game, is his "Down B makes lightning come from the sky" assault.

2. Meta Knight, Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Meta Knight is almost unbeatable in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, despite the fact that many purists see him as an unjustly strong player. His tornado strike can bulldoze through almost any opponent's move, his recovery attack is one of the quickest and most powerful techniques any character has, and he can even fly. How are you expected to defeat Meta Knight in a game when no other character can really fly? You don't, is the answer.
1. Marth, Super Smash Brothers Melee
I was tempted to place Meta Knight first because of his ridiculously high level of power, but I'm going to have to give Marth the nod here. With his extremely long broadsword and a grab that is among the quickest and far-reaching in the game, a competent Marth can execute an infinite variety of combos. Although studying Marth takes longer than mastering Meta Knight, virtually all “tournament” fans of the game know that in a one-on-one matchup, a great Marth is absolutely unstoppable.
