1. Red Bull Kumite 2016's Daigo vs. Tokido showdown
The first Red Bull Kumite took place only three months after Street Fighter V was released, and it was a resounding success. Daigo and Tokido, two OGs of the fighting game industry, faced off in the very first match of the tournament's existence. The audience was naturally pumped for this match-up even before a joystick was pulled, and they were not disappointed as the game unfolded into a tightly contested battle, with the Japanese giants even sharing a double KO. Here's where you may relive the fight.
2. OG's come-from-behind win at The International 8
Team OG's triumph at TI8 was captured in the gripping documentary Against the Odds, which you can watch above. Never before in the history of esports has a team been written down so severely, so lowly, before going on to win the most prestigious award in the world. OG got through qualification and went on to win the whole tournament despite player departures, and they did it in their own unique manner, selecting unorthodox line-ups and characters *they* wanted to play with and totally tearing up the meta. The ease with which they swept to victory in the next year's International, becoming the first Dota 2 team to win the Aegis of Champions twice in a row, was incredible in and of itself, but TI8 will always have a unique place in Dota history.
3. Back-to-back perfects in the RBDB FighterZ World Final 2020 Grand Final
Just when fans thought the Red Bull Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Final in 2020 couldn't get any crazier (what with the world's best players, raucous Parisian crowds, and wildcard entries stretching well into Day Two), the Grand Final defied all expectations, pitting training partners GO1 and Fenritti in an epic battle. Fenritti replied with a flurry of well-timed strokes after being undone by a perfect in the first game, knocking his opponent's character unconscious and making it two perfects in a row. GO1 won the championship in the end, but he will never forget the final. We won't either.
4. Red Bull Racing Team wins the Sebring 12 Hours
Let it be known that top esports do not come without physical exertion. Sure, the Red Bull Racing Esports Team didn't have to wear oil-splattered overalls or sweat-inducing balaclavas to win this year's GTE Series, but they did have to put in real effort and stay mentally switched on for 12 hours of breakneck racing, outwitting the opposition with clever pit stops and expert maneuvers. In the rapidly developing esports industry, achieving the podium of the famous 12 Hours of Sebring is no easy accomplishment, much like in real life. In the months ahead, expect much more from this tenacious team.
5. At Red Bull's Gaming Sphere, Limit and Pieces go head-to-head in a raid.
It's not simple to play any version of Warcraft online. To be a serious guild, you must have all of your parts working together. You can't have too many 'Leeroy Jenkins' in your wardrobe. Limits and Pieces took over the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London in July 2019 for a nonstop live broadcast to see who could be the first to kill Queen Azshara on Mythic level in the Eternal Palace raid zone. Limit finally cracked it after 14 days, winning the head-to-head fight in the Sphere versus Pieces, who ended the day on 7/8.
6. Daigo's amazing comeback in the 2018 Red Bull Kumite Losers' Final
Daigo is virtually more myth than a man in the fighting game industry, thanks to a never-say-die mentality that even Rocky Balboa would be proud of. Of course, we all remember that famous Evo comeback, but at Kumite 2018, ‘the Beast' reminded fans of his Lazarus-like abilities when he launched a spectacular comeback vs Problem X in the Losers' Final – first with a flurry of breathless combos while protecting a sliver of health bar, and then, after being hit AGAIN and somehow surviving, blocking and countering his way to an eventual opening w/ Problem X. Though it wasn't enough to win the tie (Problem X went on to lose to Fujimura in the Grand Final), it was another memorable event in Kumite's history.
7. Red Bull Racing Esports is the 2019 Formula One World Champion.
When the 2019 Formula One Championship season came down to the wire, there was no lack of drama at London's Gfinity Arena. Frederik Rasmussen of Red Bull Racing continued his strong form by winning both the Suzuka and the second race at the Circuit of the Americas. He planned to hand over his spot in the final race at Brazil's Interlagos to teammate Nicolas Longue, but team principal Christian Horner intervened and put Rasmussen back in the driver's seat. In difficult circumstances, the Danish speedster finished 10th, demonstrating a great mix of nerve and nous as he helped the team win the F1 Esports 2019 Pro Series team championship and their half-million-dollar prize. When Max Verstappen congratulates you on Twitter, you know you're doing something well as a team. The game does, in fact, recognize the game.
