Since the game's release in 2015, Overwatch gamers have been pleading with the developers to include cross-platform functionality. It's also simple to see why. Overwatch is a hugely popular multiplayer-only shooter that competes with games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Paladins: Champions of the Realm, all of which allow players to play against each other. To their credit, Blizzard has finally included the functionality in time for the release of Overwatch 2.

Is Overwatch available on many platforms?
Yes, after months of anticipation, Blizzard has finally made a cross-platform play in Overwatch available on all platforms. As part of the matching process, cross-platform compatibility is now accessible on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, among other platforms.
Cross-platform compatibility is provided via a free Battle.net account, so if you're playing on a console, you'll need to sign up for one first. The company is offering a free golden treasure box to everyone who registers for a Battle.net account by the end of 2021 as a means to assist gamers in their journey. Crossplay is enabled by default on both PC and console platforms, and console players will have the option to turn it off if they so want. Regardless of whether or not you plan to use crossplay, you must have connected a Battle.net account to your game. Players on PCs are unable to disable the function.

Crossplay has arrived in Overwatch, but cross-progression has yet to arrive. When switching between platforms, you must start again from the beginning, which means that none of your skins, experience or other unlocks will be carried over. However, it is possible that it will occur in the future.
How to make Overwatch cross-play possible?
Crossplay is now accessible in all Overwatch playlists, with the exception of the competitive mode, which is not available. Default settings for this mode will keep console players playing against each other and PC players playing against PC players in order to prevent any advantages PC players may have. When a PC player forms a group with one or more console players, they will be automatically put into the PC player matchmaking pool by the game.
Now that crossplay is available, as previously stated, console players will be needed to join up or link their Battle.net accounts in order to continue playing online. Create an account and connect to the platform that you use to play (similar to Call of Duty: Warzone). Afterward, you'll be able to view gamers on other platforms via your Battle.net friends list, which you may access at any time.
The issue with the keyboard and mouse
There are many additional significant roadblocks to Overwatch cross-platform support: The keyboard and mouse are two examples of input devices. Overwatch is compatible with a controller on consoles, and it is compatible with a keyboard and mouse on PC. Despite the fact that it supports keyboard and mouse inputs, this configuration is not compatible with the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. We understand that there are workarounds for this issue that requires spending a few hundred dollars on an adaptor, but we do not advocate taking that path.
The Overwatch team, according to Kaplan in a forum post, "disapproves of the usage of a mouse and keyboard on the console." This remark does not constitute an outright ban threat, but it comes dangerously close. Understanding the team's reasoning is important for relieving tensions about a lack of support, and this is something that cannot be overlooked. Consider the following scenario: one person is using a keyboard and mouse, while everyone else is using a gamepad. The individual who has access to a keyboard has an unfair advantage in this situation. It's true that you could point to other games that allow you to play with others independent of your input device (Modern Warfare is among them). The Overwatch development team, on the other hand, has determined that it is an unacceptably large advantage in this specific game.

The Overwatch League is the most immediately apparent reason for this place in the rankings. A player on Overwatch is likely to have abilities that are more effective on one platform than another. Their skillset is usually better honed on either a controller or a keyboard and mouse, rather than on both at the same time. It should be noted that, unless all of the various variables across devices are consistent, it will be difficult to properly compare abilities across matchup outcomes. Moreover, since professional players are judged on their ability to perform under pressure, consistency must be emphasized throughout the game. Overwatch is well-known for its dedication to the playstyle over a lengthy period of time.
