10. Shinobi Joe Musashi
Ninjas have grown more common in video games, but Joe Musashi from Sega's Shinobi series helped to establish the genre. In comparison to the Ninja Gaiden games, the Shinobi games have a more severe difficulty. Joe Musashi has to face formidable obstacles, yet his sword is always at his side and plays a crucial role in many of his most critical fights. Shinobi for the PlayStation 2 showcases the character's abilities in a more contemporary setting, as Musashi.

Xenoblade Chronicles is an immersive RPG series that, due to some recent remasters, is now receiving some more attention. The game's hero, Shulk, not only wields a formidable sword known as the Monado, but also has a highly enjoyable fighting system. With the capacity to see across time, Shulk and the Monado are an incredibly strong combination that has only grown in popularity since its inclusion in Super Smash Bros. (Fire Emblem)
8. Marth's Sword Lunge
The Fire Emblem series is one of Nintendo's most popular franchises, and despite the fact that the games have covered a lot of territory with many different characters, Marth is generally regarded as the series' most recognized hero.
Swordfighters from the Fire Emblem series have been a recurrent theme in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, but Marth has earned his spot. Marth is a disgraced hero who goes through a triumphant redemption journey. He and his mighty sword Falchion have destroyed armies, dragons, and a slew of other foes.
7. Link
Although the breadth of Link's adventures in The Legend of Zelda series continues to expand and explore new territory, the games always have a solid base to fall back on. Master Sword is nearly always an essential weapon in Link's armory, no matter how much Link and his travels have changed. Link is capable with any weapon, but he is most at ease with a sword, which he can use to channel tremendous power. Skyward Sword takes this concept to its logical conclusion, with Link's sword serving as his companion throughout the game.
6. Mitsurugi (Soulcalibur)
Soulcalibur is a fighting game series that follows a cast of heroes who all wield strong swords with personal meaning. Anyone from the franchise might make this list, but Mitsurugi seems especially fitting since he is a constant throughout the series. Mitsurugi is a tormented samurai who has devoted his whole life to honing his swordsmanship. He's conquered hardship, and he's on vengeance against guns, pledging to prove how superior the blade is.

5. Bloodborne Hunter
From Software is known for making some of the most punishingly tough action games on the market. The story of Bloodborne revolves around a character known only as of the Hunter. He has a variety of weapons at his disposal, but his Saw Cleaver and Hunter Blunderbuss are his favorites since they both put his real power to the test against the massive creatures he encounters.
The country of Yharnam has been devastated to the point that Hunter's only option is to fight and live. The Hunter's ability to fend off swarms of enemies with his sword demonstrates his ferocity.
4. Haohmaru
Samurai Shodown is an SNK fighting series that slipped into oblivion for a few years before making a comeback in an effort to break into the contemporary market. Although there are many swordfighters in Samurai Shodown, Haohmaru is a strong character from the series who is a true embodiment of the blade. Haohmaru has incredible strength, yet he can also use his sword to generate whirlwinds and projectile blasts of air. Even if Samurai Shodown goes away, the character has been introduced as a guest fighter in Soulcalibur, thus Haohmaru may still find a home.
3. Ryu Hayabusa
Ninja Gaiden is a popular action series from Tecmo that has both delighted and irritated players in previous generations of gaming as well as in more recent times. The Ninja Gaiden remake is fantastic, and it's nice to see how the games have a difficulty level that's similar to the original games. Ryu Hayabusa, the series' main character, is a skillful ninja who can use a variety of weapons. Ryu has taken out hundreds of opponents at once and faced dangers that should have been impossible to overcome, yet if he has a sword nearby, he will never lose.
2. Raiden (Metal Gear Solid)
After replacing Snake as the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2, fans took a while to warm up to Raiden, but he's grown into his role as an action hero. Raiden was always fast with a sword, but once he transforms into a cyborg assassin, his abilities become unfathomable. Raiden not only has incredible speed, but he also has no trouble slicing through Metal Gears and other equipment. Raiden's electrified katana is more powerful than a normal blade, but he also understands how to wield it.
1. Vergil Devil May Cry)
The Devil May Cry series is full of exaggerated personalities, and although Dante is the main character and probably the most powerful, Vergil should not be overlooked. Dante may have better all-around abilities, but when it comes to swordplay, Vergil is without a doubt the most skilled in the series. Vergil possesses his main sword, Yamato, but he also has the ability to summon other swords in combat. He's a guy with such quick reflexes that he can not only deflect bullets with his sword but also bounce them back at his assailant.
